What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the leading method of clear aligner orthodontics. It’s similar to braces, but instead of using metal wires and brackets, it uses clear, smooth, thin plastic “aligners.” These look sort of like a night guard or retainer. When you wear your aligners, they gently put pressure on your teeth, pushing them into the proper position over time.

Compared to braces, Invisalign has lots of benefits. It’s often faster for qualified patients. It’s completely removable, so you can take your aligners out to eat and drink, and to brush and floss. Your aligners also will be completely invisible when worn and won’t affect your speech. This makes Invisalign particularly popular among older patients who may want to avoid the appearance of braces.

What To Expect

UNDERSTANDING THE TREATMENT PROCESS

To begin, you’ll come to our office for an appointment with Dr. Park. He’ll examine your mouth and help you decide if Invisalign is a good option for your situation. Most patients with minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues qualify. If you’re approved, he will take impressions of your mouth, and begin designing your treatment plan.

You’ll come back in a few weeks to pick up your aligners. Each set is usually worn for about 2 weeks, for at least 20-22 hours per day. You’ll need to be consistent about wearing your aligners, and you’ll also come back into our office about every 6 weeks for a checkup. After each checkup, Dr. Park will give you your next set of aligners. The same basic process will continue until your treatment is complete.

WHAT CAN INVISALIGN TREAT?

Crooked Or Crowded Teeth
Invisalign can push crooked and crowded teeth into the proper position, and can provide you with a more even, attractive, and appealing smile. If you’re uncomfortable with your smile due to uneven teeth, it may be a good option.

Gaps Between Teeth
Invisalign is often used if you have large gaps between your teeth, such as a front tooth gap (diastema). It can close these gaps and ensure your teeth have a healthy, appealing alignment.

Overbites & Underbites
Dentists like Dr. Park can use Invisalign to correct most minor-to-moderate bite problems, including underbites and overbites. However, Invisalign is not quite as powerful as braces when it comes to bite problems. Severe bite issues may require treatment with traditional braces.
