Alveoloplasty

PREPARE YOUR JAW BONE

When you lose a tooth, sharp ridges of bone may remain around the tooth socket. These can interfere with tooth replacements like dental bridges, dentures, and dental implants. So if you’re having your teeth replaced, an alveoloplasty may be needed. This procedure involves gently removing some of the jaw bone, and smoothing it out so that your replacement teeth will fit properly.

BONE GRAFTS

Bone grafts are sometimes needed to rebuild your jaw bone before a dental implant. Implants require healthy, strong bone tissue to attach properly. Bone grafts can be used to strengthen your jaw if it’s not strong enough on its own. In this procedure, Dr. Park will open up your gums and jaw, then pack bone powder or granules into the jaw bone. After this is done, your jaw bone will begin to heal, and new bone tissue will grow around the grafted bone.

SINUS LIFTS

Sinus lifts are the same as bone grafts, but they’re used for implants that are placed in the upper mouth. The sinus lining is very close to the roots of your teeth, which is where bone must be placed during a bone graft. So in this procedure, Dr. Park will perform an additional surgical procedure to lift the sinus lining away before placing bone material in your jaw bone. Just like a bone graft, this strengthens your jaw enough to accommodate a dental implant.

Tori Removal

REMOVING BONE GROWTHS

Dental tori are bone growths that are very common in older adults. They can grow on the upper or lower mouth. Dental tori are harmless, but can interfere with some dental restorations such as dentures. If you’re getting dentures, Dr. Park may need to remove these growths to ensure your comfort. He’ll clean and numb your mouth, then use special tools to drill away the bone and eliminate your dental tori.
